Fire crews tackle blaze at Bury metal recycling centre

Crews were at the scene on Birch Street for around six hours

Six fire engines were sent to a fire at a metal recycling centre in Bury in the early hours of this morning.

Crews from across Greater Manchester were called to Birch Street at around 00:30am on Tuesday 6th October.

Firefighters worked alongside Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe.

They used specialist equipment to put out the fire.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At around 00:30am this morning (Tuesday 6 October), six fire engines from across Greater Manchester were called to reports of a fire at a metal recycling centre on Birch Street, Bury.

"Crews arrived quickly and worked alongside Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe, using specialist equipment to extinguish the fire.

"Firefighters were in attendance for around 6 hours."

The cause of the blaze is currently unknown.
