Ex-carer who scammed pensioner out of £300k before fleeing to Tenerife jailed

A woman who scammed a vulnerable pensioner out of almost £300,000 before fleeing to Tenergie has had two months added to her prison sentence, bringing it to six years and two months.
Pamela Gwinnett had fled the UK for span in 2025 to evade authorities.
Extradited back to the UK
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) worked alongside the National Crime Agency (NCA) and Spanish authorities to locate Gwinnett and begin the process of returning her to the UK.
She was arrested at Manchester Airport after being extradited.
Gwinnett was convicted and sentenced to six years in prison in her absence in October 2025, for several offences including fraud by abuse of position and theft. It related to her time working at a care home in Adlington, Chorley.
At a subsequent Proceeds of Crime hearing, an order for £300,000 was granted.
The additional two months relate to her failing to appear at court previously.
'Denied the victim's family closure'
PC Georgia Loughton, the officer in charge of the investigation, said this result was "the culmination of a tenacious investigation ensuring that we secured justice for the family of the victim at the centre of this case."
She said the victim in the case sadly passed away in 2022, and that Gwinnett's actions had "denied the victim's family closure."
PC Loughton added that she hoped "some from of closure comes from this result."
Clare Meehan, from the NCA's National Extradition Unit, said Gwinnett had "abused her position as a caregiver to commit serious fraud offences against a vulnerable woman."
She said the NCA had "worked closely with Greater Manchester Police and our law enforcement partners in Spain to secure her return to face justice."
