Police have issued a dispersal order across the Gorton and Abbey Hey areas of Manchester because of concerns about anti-social behaviour around Bonfire Night.

Greater Manchester Police said the Section 34 order gives officers enhanced powers to direct anyone involved in, or suspected of being involved in, anti-social behaviour to leave the designated area for a specified period.

The 48-hour order runs from 1pm on Thursday 5th November to 1pm on Saturday 7th November.

Police said it has been put in place because of concerns about the potential for bonfire-night related anti-social behaviour, which has occurred in recent years.

The force said the order forms part of its ongoing commitment to tackling anti-social behaviour, reducing crime and ensuring people living in and visiting the area feel safe.

Officers will continue to patrol the area, and anyone with questions is encouraged to speak with them.

Inspector Zac Campbell, from Greater Manchester Police's Gorton and Levenshulme Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Anti-social behaviour isn't a minor inconvenience - it is an extremely problematic issue that affects quality of life. Our response must be accordingly thorough and robust.

"We will be patrolling areas throughout the night, to tackle any issues that arise, while we will be proactively looking to shut down anything of concern before it becomes a problem.

"We want the public to know that we are firmly behind them - we will be there for you tonight, tomorrow, and beyond."

Anyone with information or concerns is asked to contact Greater Manchester Police on 101 or through the Live Chat service on its website.

The independent charity Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
