A large-scale cannabis farm estimated to be worth £1 million has been uncovered in Beswick, Manchester, after police carried out a drugs raid.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police's neighbourhood team executed a warrant on Wilson Street on 15th September, discovering hundreds of cannabis plants at different stages of growth.

One man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug offences and remains in custody for questioning.

Investigation and intelligence gathering

Police said the discovery followed a significant investigation and intelligence gathering before officers attended the address.

Inspector Rachel Devalle, from Greater Manchester Police's City of Manchester North Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "This was a significant discovery and the result of determined work by officers who gathered intelligence and built a picture of criminal activity at the location." Community meetings

She said: "The newly revised Partners and Community together (PACT) meetings have proved invaluable for residents and police to work together and raise any concerns they may have.

"As the newly appointed Inspector for the area, I am really keen to work alongside residents and work with them.

"We encourage anyone with information about drug dealing or cannabis cultivation in their area to contact us so we can take action. Concerns can be raised face to face or sent anonymously to Crimestoppers."

The neighbourhood team covering Ancoats, Beswick, Clayton, Miles Platting, Newton Heath and Openshaw includes Sergeant Horner, PC Khan, PC Al-Annan, PCSO Barnett and PCSO Owen.
