Greater Manchester Police's response teams have discovered a substantial cannabis farm in Stalybridge, following a tip-off from a housing association agent.

Officers attended the property on Stayley Drive around 6pm on 21st April, encountering cannabis plants in nearly every room alongside growing equipment such as lights, fans, and pipes. The illegal bypassing of electricity was noted, highlighting ongoing safety concerns.

Discovery details

The farm, comprising between 150 and 200 cannabis plants, is valued between £150,000 and £200,000 in street terms. Work is underway to safely disconnect the bypassed electricity, while Crime Scene Investigation officers and local neighbourhood teams conduct thorough enquiries at the scene.

Chief Inspector Philip Brown of GMP’s Tameside district emphasised the importance of such operations during Response Week:

“It’s Response Week and this one example of the varied and unpredictable incidents our response teams deal with every day... Drug production and supply are not victimless crimes.”

Community engagement

Inspector Brown reiterated the significance of disrupting drug activities in terms of community protection, violence prevention, and guarding vulnerable individuals against exploitation. He encouraged members of the public to report any criminal activities to local police teams or through Crimestoppers, where information can be shared anonymously.

The discovery of this cannabis farm underscores GMP's commitment to identifying and responding to threats, alongside engaging with partners to maintain community safety.
