Major road closed as firefighters tackle huge blaze in Salford
Emergency crews were called out in the early hours of Thursday morning (06 August)
A major road in Salford is closed this morning as firefighters battle a huge blaze at a commercial unit.
Crews from Moss Side, Manchester Central, Salford, Broughton, Philips Park and Blackley were called to the Marc Darcy suit shop off Bury New Road at around 01:40BST on Thursday morning (06 August).
The fire covered an area estimated to be around 50x50 meters, with videos posted on social media showing huge plumes of smoke rising into the sky.
Greater Manchester Police have shut Bury New Road while a major operation continues to bring the fire under control.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue said: "“Firefighters have been working hard to bring the blaze under control, using two jets, the turntable ladder and the Scorpion to tackle the fire.
“Crews remain in attendance as they continue to work to extinguish the fire and make the area safe. Bury New Road is currently closed by GMP and residents are asked to stay away from the area and keep doors and windows closed.”
