Westminster Bridge has re-opened after it was closed by emergency services earlier.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were in attendance from around 10 this morning

A 32 year old man was taken to hospital, but has now been discharged

He was arrested on suspicion of failing to appear at court

In a statement the Met Police said:

Police were called at 10:12hrs on Wednesday, 8 October following concerns for the welfare of a man on Westminster Bridge.

Met officers attended the scene and closed the bridge while they helped the man. He was also arrested on suspicion of failing to appear at court.

The man, aged 32, was taken to hospital, and has since been discharged.

He was taken in police custody to the Old Bailey in relation to the failed court appearance.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said:

“We were called today (Wednesday 8) at 10.10am to reports of an incident on Westminster Bridge.

“We sent resources including ambulance crews, an emergency planning manager, an incident response officer and members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).

“We treated a man at the scene before taking him to hospital.”

London Fire Brigade said they sent three fire engines, two fire rescue units and a fire boat to support.
