Investigation into suspected gas explosion at house in north east London

Fire crews and the police were called to Stoke Newington earlier on Tuesday morning.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a suspected gas explosion at a house on Dumont Road in Stoke Newington on Tuesday morning.

A cordon has been put in place.

Station Commander Darren McTernan is at the scene, he said: “Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area for most of this morning while investigations into the cause of this incident are carried out. There are road closures in place on Stoke Newington Church Street from the junction of the A10 to Defoe Road. Residents should also note that Kersley Road is completely shut at this time.”

The Brigade’s 999 Control officers were first called at 0452 and deployed crews from Stoke Newington, Holloway, Islington and Homerton fire stations to the scene. The incident was under control for the Brigade by 0542.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation by the Brigade and Metropolitan Police Service.
