Murder investigation launched after woman found dead in Newham

Police in Newham have begun a murder investigation following the death of a 74-year-old woman.

On Tuesday, 17th February at 12:36hrs, officers were called to St George’s Square, E7 to reports of a death at a residential location.

Despite their efforts to provide first aid upon arriving, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 44-year-old man, believed to be known to the deceased, was arrested at the property on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Chief Superintendent Dan Card, who leads policing in Newham, stated:

“This is an incredibly sad incident in which a woman has lost her life, and our hearts go out to her family and friends.

“Officers are continuing to work with care and determination to understand the full circumstances of what happened.

“A man, believed to be known to the woman, is in custody, and this is being treated as an isolated incident.”

The woman's next-of-kin have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers.

A crime scene remains active as investigators continue to gather information.
