A man has admitted shouting "I want to fight you" at airline crew, and assaulting a paramedic, after being drunk on a plane at Heathrow Airport.

Yogeshwar Sharma, 50, pleaded guilty at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Friday to entering an aircraft while drunk, using threatening behaviour, common assault of a paramedic and smoking on a plane, on November 25 last year.

Prosecutor Kate Fassam-Wright said police were called to the outbound flight to Delhi, India, after staff reported a "drunk and abusive male on the aircraft".

Ms Fassam-Wright told the court: "After being told he was too drunk to fly, he became abusive to crew, shouting 'f*** off' and 'I want to fight you'.

Sharma, 50, of Lansdowne Road, Ilford, refused to leave the plane, taking out a lighter and then starting to vape after being told he was not allowed to smoke, the court heard.

After being escorted from the flight, Sharma tried to spit at officers and lunged towards a paramedic with a clenched fist that connected with their chin, the court heard.

He had bought a litre of vodka and taken two doses of a prescribed medication before getting on the flight.

Sharma does not remember getting on the plane and is "disgusted by his behaviour", the court heard.

He was released on bail and will be sentenced at the same court on March 4.

Magistrate Manbhinder Rana told Sharma: "You've pleaded guilty to all of these four offences.

"We now need to move to a sentence for these. We can't sentence today because we want to find out more about your personal circumstances.

"Until that time, you are released on unconditional bail."
