Firefighters tackle huge blaze at west London church

Around 70 firefighters were on the scene in Southall on Sunday night.

Investigations are continuing after a fire broke out at a church in west London overnight .

It broke out on South Road in Southall and led to a significant response from emergency services, with 10 fire engines and approximately 70 firefighters working to control the flames.

The blaze engulfed most of the ground floor, second floor, and roof of the church.

While firefighters managed to bring the fire under control overnight, crews remain on the scene this morning to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.

South Road is currently closed in both directions between Park Road and High Street.

Authorities are advising the public to avoid the area.

To tackle the fire from above, two of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders were deployed.

Control Officers received the first of over 20 emergency calls at 21:30 and dispatched teams from Southall, Ealing, Heston, and nearby stations.

The fire was successfully brought under control by 00:38.

The cause remains under investigation.
