Jay-Z serenades Beyonce at first UK gig in nearly a decade
London show features Fugees and star-studded appearances
Jay-Z returned to the London stage at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for his first UK performance in almost ten years, honouring his wife Beyonce's 45th birthday with a heartfelt serenade.
The US rapper, known as Shawn Carter, led the audience in a rendition of Happy Birthday, while Beyonce could be seen waving, blowing kisses, and dancing energetically to her husband's set, accompanied by a display of fireworks.
The star-studded show featured surprise appearances from the Fugees, actor Idris Elba, and UK rapper Giggs.
Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean of the Fugees performed some of their iconic hits, including Ready Or Not, Killing Me Softly, and Fu-Gee-La, marking the 30th anniversary of their influential album, The Score.
Speaking to the crowd, Jay-Z expressed gratitude to the Fugees, saying, “They took me out on my first European tour, opening up for them,” and added, “Thank you, I appreciate you. I’m forever a fan.”
Highlighting the importance of performing in London, Jay-Z said, “This place holds a special significance in my career, so tonight I want to turn it all the way up.”
Jay-Z's set included hit tracks like 99 Problems, Dirt Off My Shoulder, Run This Town, Empire State Of Mind, and No Church In The Wild, alongside songs like Girls, Girls, Girls, Izzo (HOVA), Paris, and Numb/Encore.
The show saw appearances from actors like Luther star Idris Elba, DJ Khaled, and grime artist Giggs, who joined Jay-Z for a rendition of Talkin’ Da Hardest.
This performance marks Jay-Z’s first solo gig in the UK since his 4:44 tour in 2017, where he headlined V Festival, and celebrates 30 years of his music career, aligned with the anniversary of his debut album Reasonable Doubt and 25 years since The Blueprint.
He is set to return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a second show on 5th September.
