Flight disruption across the UK

An issue with air traffic control is causing disruption to flight departures in the UK

National Air Traffic Services says its engineers are investigating a 'technical problem.' with it's 'flight processing system' adding that 'recovery will take some time'.

Heathrow Airport's apologised to passengers who've been affected and says there's been no impact on arriving flights.

A Heathrow spokesperson said:

"The air traffic control service NATS is experiencing a technical issue which is impacting departing flights at UK airports. Arriving flights are not currently impacted. We are supporting our local NATS team in their efforts to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We will provide updated information when we have it. We apologise to those disrupted and advise passengers to check with their airline for latest flight information."

Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports are all seeing some disruption.

An AGS spokesperson said:

“A technical issue affecting NATS air traffic control services is causing disruption to some flight departures. As a result, some services operating to and from our airports may experience delays.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and advise passengers to check with their airline for the latest flight information before travelling.”

A spokesperson for London Stansted said:

“We are aware of an issue affecting Nats’ air traffic control service, which is causing disruption to flights at London Stansted and across the UK.

“Passengers due to travel should check the status of their flight directly with their airline.

“We’ll continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.”

Manchester Airport Group, the company that operates Manchester Airport, Stansted Airport in Essex and East Midlands Airport in Leicestershire, said flights from all three had been affected by the issue.

Jersey Airport, in the Channel Islands, said its flights had also been impacted.

Passengers have been advised to check the latest flight information with their airlines.

Nats said in a statement: “We are investigating a technical issue which is causing some disruption to flight departures.

“Our engineers are on site and we will provide an update as soon as we can.

“We apologise for the delay this will cause to journeys, passengers should check with their airline on the status of their flight.
