Man in hospital after fire at building in north London
It broke out just after 3:30 on Thursday morning.
Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackled a fire at a mixed-use building on Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park.
The roof of an end-of-terrace building used as a residential block and commercial unit was damaged by fire. Firefighters rescued a man from the roof via a ladder, who was taken to hospital alongside three further people who were out of the building before the Brigade arrived.
Difficult conditions
Station Commander Duncan Rees, who was at the scene, said: “Crews worked in difficult conditions to bring the fire under control and rescue a person from the building.
“One of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders was used as a water tower, allowing firefighters to tackle the flames from above.
“We asked members of the public to avoid the area where possible while crews worked to bring the incident under control.
“Crews remain at the scene this morning, damping down hot spots and making sure the area is safe.”
The Brigade's Control Officers took the first of nearly 20 calls to the fire at 0336 and sent crews from Holloway, Stoke Newington, Kentish Town, Islington and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 0529.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
