Fire crews tackle blaze near supermarket in Golders Green
The flames broke out just before 7am this morning
London Fire Brigade is on the scene of a fire at a commercial property in Golders Green.
They say they received nearly 60 reports of flames on Golders Green Road, behind a Jewish supermarket called Kosher Kingdom, just before 7am on Wednesday 27 May.
In a statement, the LFB said: “The fire has occurred by a building which is three storeys, with a shop on the ground floor and premises above.
“The fire is producing a significant amount of smoke and we’re advising people in the area to keep their windows and doors shut at this time.
“Please avoid the area whilst firefighters work to extinguish the fire.”
It added that crews from Finchley, Willesden and West Hampstead were attending - making 10 fire engines and 70 firefighters.
Drivers have been asked to avoid roads around the area, including the Golders Green Road junction with Beverley Gardens.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said its officers were assisting with road closures and evacuations.
They added: “At around 7am on Wednesday May 27, police were called by the London Fire Brigade who were responding to a fire in Golders Green Road, Barnet.
“Fortunately, there have been no reports of any injuries.
“This is an ongoing incident with the focus on dealing with the fire and ensuring the safety of the public.
"It is too early to have determined the cause."
