Whiston teen arrested after two zombie knives imported from Finland
A 19-year-old was arrested as part of a Project Medusa investigation
A 19-year-old man from Whiston has been arrested after two zombie knives were brought into the UK from Finland.
He was arrested earlier today on suspicion of importing prohibited weapons or ammunition with intent to evade a prohibition or restriction and possession of cannabis.
Merseyside Police said he remains in custody and will be questioned.
Arrest made in Whiston
The arrest was made as part of an investigation into the importation of the two weapons.
Enquiries were carried out by officers from Project Medusa, a Merseyside-led initiative set up to tackle suspected County Lines drug dealing and child criminal exploitation across the country.
Detective Chief Inspector Gary Stratton said: “There is no good reason for owning a ‘zombie knife’ or machete and they have absolutely no place in our communities.
“These weapons are incredibly dangerous and thankfully we’ve been able to seize two of them and arrest a suspect.
“There’s no hiding place for criminals who look abroad as a way to get their hands on bladed weapons. We will find them and they will be removed from our streets.
“We are relentless in our work to seize dangerous weapons and bring those who use them to justice.
“We are also determined to reduce knife crime in Merseyside in line with the government’s Safer Streets campaign. We've seen the devastation that knives cause and will continue to work with our partners and be proactive in our work to remove knives from the streets so our communities can feel safe.”
