Plans for a new outdoor gym at Walton Gardens are progressing, as Warrington Council seeks a suitable location for the facility, following collaboration between Rotary Warrington and local partners.

Despite securing nearly £24,000 in funding, including a £20,000 National Lottery grant, for exercise equipment that promotes health for all ages, the project faced challenges with maintenance costs.

The £332.91 annual inspection and maintenance fee was initially a sticking point, prompting concerns from Warrington Liberal Democrats about potential delays.

Cllr Sharon Harris, Liberal Democrat, highlighted the Rotary's considerable efforts in fundraising and expressed disappointment over the delay due to the modest costs.

As Rotary Warrington approaches its 100th anniversary, the outdoor gym hopes to serve as a lasting legacy for the community.

Cllr Una Gillham, cabinet member for climate change, sustainability, and the environment, reinforced the council’s commitment to finding a solution for the gym’s implementation and upkeep.

The council will collaborate with Rotary Warrington to eventually establish the gym, ensuring it aligns with the council’s wellbeing goals and becomes an asset to local residents.

This initiative reflects the council’s dedication to partnering with community groups to improve public spaces and will deliver a valued facility for the Warrington community.
