Warrington opens community laundrette to aid families facing fuel poverty
Warm Wash Centre offers free laundry and energy advice to vulnerable households
A new community laundrette, the Cadent Warm Wash Centre, has opened at Westy Community Centre in Warrington to support families struggling with fuel poverty and damp conditions.
Offering free washing and drying facilities, alongside energy efficiency advice and a welcoming space, the centre aims to alleviate hardships faced by households living in vulnerable situations.
Cadent's recent research highlights pressing issues with over 63 percent of people reporting severe mould problems and a significant portion indicating they lower heating to reduce costs, contributing to damp and mould growth.
Acknowledging that one in ten households in Warrington are in fuel poverty, the centre has been designed to provide vital relief. Users will receive guidance from trained energy advisers and assess available benefits, enhancing their capacity to make homes warmer and more efficient year-round.
Emma Turnbull from Cadent, emphasized the importance of addressing safety and wellbeing issues related to damp and mould.
" We believe a safe warm home isn't a privilege, its a fundamental right. We are seeing more and more families coming through our Centres for Warmth. Fuels poverty effects people all year round, but when the winter comes the people of Warrington know where to get help."
The facility is now open for bookings, promising ongoing assistance to improve living standards across the community.
