A 90-year-old man who died following a road crash in Walton has been described by his family as a “loving gentleman” whose “kindness and warmth touched everyone who knew him”.

Andy Madden, from Walton, was taken to hospital after a collision on Walton Hall Avenue at around 10.25pm on Saturday 31st January.

He sadly passed away last week.

A man in his 50s, who was driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa, stopped at the scene and is under investigation on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

Family pay tribute to Andy Madden

In a tribute issued after his death, Andy’s family said: “Andy was a loving gentleman whose kindness and warmth touched everyone who knew him. A devoted family man, he placed love and care at the heart of everything he did. Andy’s presence brought comfort and laughter, and his generosity of spirit will never be forgotten.

“Andy was a lifelong season ticket holder at Liverpool FC. His passion for the club was part of who he was, it was shared with pride, tradition, and countless memories over the years. It was more than football, it was joy and a lifelong devotion.

“Andy is deeply loved and sorely missed by his partner Margaret and by all his family. Though he has tragically passed away, his love lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to walk alongside him. His memory will forever remain in all our hearts.

“My heart is broken: your partner Margaret xx””

Investigation ongoing

The collision happened on Walton Hall Avenue, near to Queens Drive.

Detective Sergeant Simon Duffy, Lead Investigating Officer from the Matrix Serious Collision Unit, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with Andy’s family at this difficult time, and they are being supported by our specially trained family liaison officers.

“Our investigation continues and we would like to hear from anyone who might have been driving in the area of Walton Hall Avenue, near to Queens Drive at about 10.25pm on the night of Saturday 31 January and saw any part of this incident. If you have dashcam, and were in the area, please come forward so that we can review the footage.

“Likewise, if you live locally and have CCTV, please get in touch so we can review it and build an accurate picture of how this happened.”
