Maero Johnson died in August 2023 after being taken to hospital
Two parents have been charged in connection with the death of their one-year-old son in St Helens three years ago.
Adam Johnson, 26, of Hempstead Close, and Kylie Smith, 25, of Holly Bank Street, have both been charged with causing or allowing the death of a child, child neglect, and possession of a controlled Class B drug, cannabis.
They are due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Thursday 13th August.
Police said they received a report just after midnight on 23rd August 2023 that a one-year-old boy, Maero Johnson, had been taken to hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, he died.
A Home Office post-mortem confirmed Maero died of ketonic hypoglycaemia and severe malnutrition.
Police said a second child was also found to be neglected and underdeveloped.
