A rifle and 70 rounds of ammunition were discovered inside a skip in Knowsley Industrial Park, Kirkby, on 10th January.

The items were wrapped in a bed sheet and a plastic bag and concealed amongst rubbish in the skip. Officers confirmed the weapon was a viable firearm, which has since been made safe and recovered for forensic examination.

Detective Inspector Chris Clark from Merseyside Police's Firearms Investigation Team urged the public to assist with intelligence, saying:

“We rely on community intelligence to discover where weapons are being stored and who is using them.

“I would ask that the public continue to be our eyes and ears. If you do find anything, don’t touch it but call 101 and we will take it from there.”

Anyone with information about firearms can contact Merseyside Police via their X account @MerPolCC or Facebook page ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’. Reports can also be made through the police website, or by calling 101.

Alternatively, information can be shared anonymously with Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or visiting the Crimestoppers website.
