A restaurant in Liverpool city centre has been evacuated after a car crashed into its window this afternoon (Saturday, November 7).

Merseyside Police said they were called to North John Street at around 12.35pm following reports that a Peugeot had collided with the window of Tiger Rock Restaurant.

The driver remained at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries. Officers have said there is currently no suggestion the collision was deliberate.

One person inside the restaurant suffered a minor injury and is due to be assessed.

Emergency services are working alongside other agencies to check whether the building has suffered any structural damage or whether there is a risk of a gas leak.

As a precaution, several nearby premises have been evacuated while these checks take place.

Road closures are also in operation at North John Street and Lord Street, Castle Street and Harrington Street, and North John Street and Dale Street.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to get in touch.
