Police find no evidence of gunfire after Toxteth shooting report
Officers were called to Thames Street on Friday
Police say they have found no evidence that a gun was fired following reports of a shooting in Toxteth.
Officers were called to Thames Street just after 4pm on Friday 12th December after it was reported a man on a bike had fired shots at three people.
An investigation was launched, but Merseyside Police now say that despite extensive searches and forensic work, no ballistic material, damage or gunshot injuries have been identified.
No shells, bullets or damage recovered
Detective Chief Inspector Andy McCourt said: “We take reports of this nature very seriously and our enquiries remain ongoing but at this stage no evidence of a discharge has been found.
“Despite extensive searches by specialist search teams and a forensic examination of the scene, we have not found any ballistic material or evidence of damage which would be consistent with a firearm discharge, furthermore nobody has come forward or presented themselves at hospital with gunshot injuries.”
Investigation continues
Police say the investigation is still active as they work to establish exactly what happened.
“This incident has clearly caused upset and concern for the local community,” DCI McCourt added.
“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Thames Street around 4pm yesterday who saw or heard anything or can assist further with our enquiries to get in touch as soon as possible.
“Gun crime remains a priority for Merseyside Police, and we would continue to ask the community to support us in our enquiries.”
