A dispersal zone has been put in place and extra stop-and-search powers enacted, ahead of a planned protest and counter-protest in Liverpool on Saturday.

Merseyside Police said the measures had been implemented to support policing operations in the County Road area.

Dispersal Zone

The dispersal zone is in effect from 9am on Saturday until midnight on Sunday 14 June.

  • Direct individuals to leave the area if they are involved in, or are likely to become involved in, anti-social behaviour
  • Require those directed to leave not to return for up to 48 hours
  • Seize items believed to be linked to anti-social behaviour

Section 60 Order

The Section 60 order gives officers additional powers to search people who are suspected in involvement of criminality and disorder.

It also includes a Section 60AA authorisation, meaning failure to remove a face covering when asked by an officer who believes it is being used for the purpose of concealing identity could result in arrest. Any face covering can also be seized by a police officer.

The designated area includes (and is bounded by):

Queens Drive, Walton Lane, Everton Valley, Kirkdale Road, Stanley Road, Melrose Road, Brewster Street and Breeze Hill, including all roads, transport hubs, public spaces and premises within these boundaries.

Superintendent Phil Mullally said:

“We will continue to proactively put a number of measures in place, including the S34 dispersal zone and Section 60 order, and our officers are actively patrolling these areas to provide reassurance.

“Our officers will be there to maintain public order, prevent and detect crime, protect life and property, and ensure the safety of all those attending and the wider public.

“Where individuals commit criminal offences, we will take appropriate and proportionate action.”
