Police appeal after Officer hurt in Walton
A female officer was injured after being dragged by a car
Police have issued an appeal for information after a female officer was seriously injured during an incident involving a car in Walton, north Liverpool.
At around 11.30am on Friday, 28 February, officers on patrol spotted a silver Nissan Micra driving at speed along Bedford Road. The vehicle was followed onto Milton Road, where the male driver initially stopped so an officer could speak with him.
While the officer was making enquiries at the side of the car, the driver attempted to drive away, dragging her along the road for five to ten metres before she fell. She sustained a deep wound to her arm along with other cuts and bruises, requiring hospital treatment.
The car was later found abandoned on Birchdale Road and enquiries to locate the driver remain ongoing.
Merseyside Police have released an image of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident, as they believe he may have information that could assist the investigation.
Detective Inspector Natalie Charlesworth said: “This was an extremely dangerous and reckless thing to do and could have been far worse. Our officers serve their communities with bravery and determination on a daily basis, but to face such reckless behaviour is completely unacceptable, and we will fully investigate all such incidents which endanger the public and our officers.
“We are determined to find the driver of this vehicle and if you have any information about what happened please get in touch. We believe the man pictured could have information to assist our investigation. If you recognise him, please let us know as a matter of urgency.”
