Liverpool Parish Church gardens once again hosted the annual pancake race tradition with chefs from restaurants across the city competing.

With past reigning champion, Lunya’s Alex Hopkins, not taking part this year, the atmosphere was whisked up as the chefs competed for the 2025 crown.

Ma Boyles chef, Sebastian Wojton, served up the success needed to win after several rounds of the garden flipping, topping and running.

He said:

"I’m very happy about it.

"This was my first time taking part in the pancake race, so I was amazed.

"First race and I did it so I’m hoping next year I’m going to be champion again."

Despite stealing the win, Mr Wojton was straight back to the Ma Boyles kitchens.

He added:

"No rest for the wicked!

"No celebration, I just had my pancake."

Crowds gathered to watch the breathless chefs complete two rounds of the grounds whilst flipping pancakes and adding toppings at set stations on the course.

Pancake race winner, Sebastian Wojton, being awarded by Bill Addy, Chief Executive of Liverpool BID Company.

Winner, Mr Wojton, was awarded an engraved pancake pan by the Rector of Liverpool for his efforts.

Bill Addy, Chief Executive of Liverpool BID Company, said:

"It’s an ancient tradition that has come back here to Liverpool since the 60s, but it’s tremendous that we’ve had so many chefs here this morning, running their hearts out, topping, and flipping pancakes.

"It’s been great, the chefs have been very competitive this year.

"It’s an annual tradition and part of the heritage of our country on Shrove Tuesday, pancake day at the beginning of Lent, and here at Liverpool Parish Church, they mark that beginning with a traditional pancake race.

"So it’s great we’re able to continue it and wonderful settings here right in the heart of the city.

"We have so many great restaurants here in Liverpool that the chefs now are getting very competitive."
