A motorcyclist has died after a crash in St Helens.

Merseyside Police were called just before 11:30am to reports that a motorbike had been in a collision with a Vauxhall Meriva on Fleet Lane, on Fleet Lane industrial estate.

The motorcyclist - a 45-year-old man - suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car stopped.

A cordon remains in place while investigation work is being carried out - motorists are advised to avoid the road.

The force is appealing for anyone who saw the crash to get in touch.

Detective Sergeant Andy Roper said:

"First and foremost, our thoughts and condolences are with this man’s family and we have specially trained officers supporting them.

"This was a tragic incident and we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this collision or was passing by at the time and may have captured anything on dashcam or other devices.

"Road closures are currently in place as officers carry out their enquiries and motorists are advised to find an alternative route."
