A man in his 30s has been taken to hospital following a police pursuit in St Helens.

Merseyside Police say a motorcyclist collided with a parked car last night, shortly after failing to stop for officers.

Officers had initially spotted an uninsured and unregistered Yamaha motorcycle at approximately 11.30pm in the area of Gaskell Street.

The rider failed to stop, leading to a brief pursuit.

It is reported the motorcycle then collided with a parked car on Baxters Lane.

The rider, a man in his 30s, sustained serious injuries and was subsequently taken to hospital by ambulance for assessment.

Merseyside Police say, due to the nature of the incident, a mandatory referral will be made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Baxters Lane has since reopened.
