Mersey Mind Project helps raise over £100,000 at Mental Health World Cup
Charity honours Nathan Jones with powerful football event
The Wirral-based Mersey Mind Project successfully contributed to raising £111,000 through the Mental Health World Cup 2026, held at Goodison Park.
The tournament, which took place on 22nd May 2026, brought together 42 teams, including Mersey Mind Project, representing Belgium and showcasing impressive performances on the pitch.
This special event was dedicated to Nathan Jones, a passionate Everton supporter who tragically passed away in June 2025.
Nathan’s connection to Goodison Park made the occasion particularly meaningful for his family and the participants, as they united to honour his life and raise awareness about men's mental health.
Catherine Jones, Nathan’s cousin, expressed her heartfelt sentiments about the event and the poignant reminder of Nathan’s love for Everton.
Mersey Mind Project member Chris Guy emphasized the unique power of football to unite communities and provide support in difficult times.
Beyond the excitement of the matches, the day spotlighted the importance of suicide awareness, encouraging open conversations about mental well-being.
Since launching in 2025, Mersey Mind Project has been proactive in combating loneliness and isolation by offering free activities and support sessions, helping men connect and improve their well-being.
The charity continues to support Nathan’s family in advocating for suicide prevention, encouraging men to speak up and seek help when needed.
