Man questioned over false imprisonment after armed police descend on St Helens street

A man has been arrested after a report of an incident at a home in St Helens on Thursday 30 April.
Police said they were called at around 7.10pm to a report of what had happened inside an address on Swan Avenue.
Armed officers went to the scene and a man was detained in the street.
A 35-year-old man from St Helens has been arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment.
He remains in custody and will be questioned.
Investigation ongoing
Merseyside Police said enquiries are in the early stages as officers gather information and support the victim.
Detective Inspector Steven O’Neil said: “The investigation into this incident is in the early stages and we are in the process of gathering information and supporting the victim.
“I would like to reassure the local community that incidents such as this are rare. Police will be in the area continuing with enquiries, residents can speak to officers with any concerns they may have.
“Although an arrest has been made, we would appeal to anyone who has information which will assist the investigation to please contact us.”
