A 35-year-old man from Kensington has been jailed for nine years and five months after carrying out a violent sexual assault on a woman in Liverpool city centre.

Noor Bigzad, of Manton Road, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday 23rd May after admitting to rape, assault by penetration, non-fatal strangulation and assault.

The attack took place on Friday 25th October 2024, when Bigzad targeted a vulnerable woman during a night out in the city and took her back to an address in Kensington.

Once there, he subjected the woman to a sustained period of sexual abuse, which left her with multiple injuries.

She was able to escape the property after Bigzad fell asleep and reported the incident to police. He was arrested later the same day and charged.

As part of the sentencing, Bigzad has also been placed on the Sex Offender’s Register for life.

In a Victim Personal Statement read to the court, the woman described the emotional toll the incident has taken on her life:

“Before Noor Bigzad, I was a shy person but enjoyed socialising with close friends and my family. Now, I just don’t want to leave my house. I have been left with a feeling of constant anxiety, scared of strange noises in the house. I avoid busy places.

Most importantly, I feel I’ve lost a huge part of myself. My confidence has been hugely impacted by this whole ordeal, and it has affected my relationships even with the people closest to me.”

"Horrific case of sexual violence against a completely innocent woman"

Detective Constable Peter Dibbert, who led the investigation, said:

“This was a horrific case of sexual violence against a completely innocent woman who was only trying to enjoy a night out in the city centre.

Bigzad targeted the woman, took her back to Kensington and subjected her to a prolonged period of sexual abuse, which included raping and assaulting her.

The bravery of this woman to not only report what happened but also support the prosecution case throughout the investigation is extraordinary and I hope this sentencing brings her some comfort. I also want to thank the local community in Kensington for their support in the investigation.”

He added:

“Merseyside Police is committed to investigating all sexual offence allegations, bringing offenders to justice and supporting all victims-survivors and I would encourage anyone who has been a victim to come forward and speak to us and allow us to help and support them.”
