Man in hospital after crash near Liverpool Airport
The driver is believed to have suffered a medical episode while behind the wheel
A man has been taken to hospital after his car collided with a tree in Speke on Saturday evening.
Emergency services were called shortly after 6.15pm following reports that a white VW ID had hit a tree on Speke Hall Avenue, near the Liverpool John Lennon Airport roundabout, police said.
Man treated at the scene
The driver is believed to have suffered a medical episode at the wheel, according to police.
He was treated at the scene by a member of the public and paramedics before being taken to hospital for further treatment.
A road closure has been in place on Speke Hall Avenue, running from the roundabout to its junction with Dunlop Road, police said.
It does not affect motorists arriving at the airport.
Those leaving are being directed by airport staff to alternative exits.
