A 44-year-old man has been detained under the Mental Health Act following the death of a 70-year-old in Maghull on Sunday 13th July.

Emergency services were called to a home on Clent Road at around 1.10pm where Phyllis Daly was found with significant injuries.

Despite the efforts of responders, she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Her next of kin are being supported by specialist officers as Merseyside Police continue their investigation into the incident.

The man was arrested on suspicion of murder on the same day. He has now been technically bailed to allow officers to carry out further enquiries, but remains detained in hospital under the Mental Health Act.

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Nuttall said: “Our thoughts remain with Phyllis’ family and friends as they continue to grieve during this tragic time.

“Our investigation is progressing and the arrested male has been detained under the Mental Health Act while inquiries are ongoing into exactly what happened.

“I want to thank the community for the information provided so far and I would continue to appeal for people to get in touch if you feel that you can assist our investigation.”
