Man charged after police officers punched in Everton
A man is due to appear in court accused of racially abusing a takeaway worker and assaulting police
A man has been charged with racially abusing a takeaway worker and assaulting three Police officers in Everton on Friday evening (27 December).
Merseyside Police were called to the takeaway on Stanley Road just after 7.50pm to a report a man had become aggressive, racially abused a member of staff and started damaging property inside.
Three officers attending were punched and spat at when attempting to detain the suspect.
Sebastian Kulik, 34 years, of Daisy Street, Kirkdale was arrested following the incident and has now been charged with the following eight offences:
- One count of racially/religiously aggravated fear/provocation of violence by words
- One count of using threatening/abusive/insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke unlawful violence
- Two counts of criminal damage
- Three counts of assault of an emergency worker
- One count of obstructing /resisting a constable in the execution of their duty
He has been remanded into custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Monday 30 December.
Detective Chief Inspector Ben Wayment said: “We will never tolerate abuse motivated by hate against anyone, anywhere in Merseyside.
“We deal with all reports of hate crime with compassion and sensitivity, acting on all information to bring offenders to justice and I would encourage anyone who has been a victim of hate crime or witnessed it to contact us.
“Our officers turn up for work every day committed to protecting the people of Merseyside, and acts of violence committed against them while they are trying to keep others safe is simply never acceptable.”
