Man arrested after making threats to a Primary School in Whiston

A 39-year-old man is being questioned over suspected malicious communications

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of various offences following an incident at a Whiston school yesterday, Thursday 27 March.

At around 10.10am, we received a report that someone had emailed Halsnead Primary School on Pennywood Drive and made threats.

A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of Malicious communications; and Possession of cannabis. He has been taken into custody to be questioned by detectives.

Local Policing Inspector Jen Murray said: “We understand the concern that such incidents cause to parents, carers, staff, pupils and the wider community. I want to assure people that there is no ongoing threat to the school or wider community.

“Officers are staying in regular contact with the school as these enquiries continue, to offer further reassurance, support and advice.

“Although an arrest has been made, I would like to take this opportunity to ask that people do not post any comments or share posts which could jeopardise this live investigation.

“Instead, all information should be passed via the official channels and will form part of our enquiries.”
