Man arrested for reportedly giving woman medication after claiming to be doctor
A 49-year-old man from Crosby has been bailed
A man from Waterloo has been arrested after reports of a man pretending to be a doctor and prescribing medication.
A woman reported on 31 january that she had been prescribed medication by a man who claimed to be a licenced doctor who was operating in Crosby.
She noticed her health worsen after injecting the drug he had given her, so she raised suspicions with her GP.
The victim, who was seeking treatment for a chronic condition, noticed Korean writing on the side of the vial he had reportedly given her.
It translated to a prescription anti-inflammatory drug not normally prescribed for her condition.
When officers went to the suspect's address, they found and seized a quantity of cannabis.
A 49-year-old man from Crosby has been conditionally bailed after being arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent and possession of a Class B controlled drug.
Detective Inspector Sara Lang said:
"Thankfully, cases such as this are extremely rare. We believe the suspect marketed his services using social media, and we would urge people to be extremely cautious when seeing anything online that seems too good to be true. The sad reality is that if it seems too good to be true, it very often is.
"Sadly, there are people who are prepared to exploit people suffering with health issues for their own financial gain, and we are taking this report extremely seriously.
"If you believe you may have been issued medication by the suspect in this case, please contact us as you may have information that would assist our ongoing enquiries."
