Police statement

Detective Inspector Chris Clark said: “I hope the arrest of a suspect reassures our communities that we are relentless in our pursuit of those involved in gun crime.

“A man is now in custody and he will be questioned by detectives about what happened.

“I want to take this opportunity to highlight that the use of firearms in Merseyside has decreased significantly in the last 15 years.

“In 2025, we saw the lowest total of shootings in Merseyside (20) since 1998 (15) and so far this year we have seen three incidents.

“However, we understand the devastation that one firearm can cause in our communities, and we use all available powers to target and bring to justice those who supply, store, possess and use firearms.

“Information provided by local people affected by gin crime is vital in reducing the threat, risk and harm. We urge anyone with information to come forward to police, anonymously via Crimestoppers, or by speaking to local authorities.

“Although we have now made an arrest, we are still appealing for anyone with information about this incident to come forward. Similarly, if you have any other information about gun crime in your area, then please let us know and we will investigate.”

Investigation continues

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police via social media or by calling 101.

Information can also be reported online via the Merseyside Police website.
