Major incident stood down as Conwy Mountain wildfire evacuees allowed home
Residents from thirty six properties near Capelulo can now return, but the fire may keep smouldering for days
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service has stood down the major incident declared on Sunday over wildfires across the region.
The service said resources are now able to effectively manage the current level of wildfire activity.
Conwy Mountain situation improves
The situation at Conwy Mountain, near Capelulo, has improved significantly.
Firefighters remain in attendance to monitor conditions and assess any ongoing risks.
Residents from the thirty six properties evacuated from the area can now return home, and the local road closures have been lifted.
The rest centre will remain open overnight until 22:00 if residents need further support.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service thanked all affected residents for their patience, understanding and co-operation during the incident.
Power issues being addressed
The fire service said some residents may be experiencing power supply issues.
Scottish Power Energy Networks is working to restore supplies as quickly as possible, and is deploying generators where required to help minimise disruption.
Smoke could continue for days
The fire is expected to continue smouldering and may produce smoke for several days, the fire service said.
Members of the public are asked to contact North Wales Fire and Rescue Service only if they see visible flames, or if smoke becomes excessive or overwhelming in their area.
Residents affected by smoke are advised to keep windows and doors closed until conditions improve and the smoke has dispersed, then air their home once it clears.
Fire crews will remain in the area around Conwy Mountain to continue monitoring conditions.
Other incidents ongoing
Firefighters also remain in attendance at incidents including Braichmelyn Forestry in Bethesda, and the Rhinogydd mountain range near Harlech, where crews continue to monitor conditions and assess ongoing risks.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service thanked fellow emergency responders and partner organisations for their support throughout the incident.
A further update is expected tomorrow morning.
