Run For The 97 unites Liverpool community to honour Hillsborough victims
Families and football fans come together for charity and remembrance
Liverpool hosts the "Run For The 97" community fun run in Stanley Park, bringing together over 1,400 participants to commemorate the Hillsborough tragedy and honour The 97 victims.
Red and blue football supporters are united to walk, jog, or run the 5K course, passing iconic sites such as Anfield and Goodison Park, with former LFC legends Jamie Carragher and Chris Kirkland joining in the event.
The event celebrates the lives of the Hillsborough victims, providing a venue for remembrance and reflection.
It also recognises the continuing quest for justice by the bereaved and survivors.
Participants can engage in family activities, contribute to Fans Supporting Foodbanks, and fundraise through partnerships with Jamie Carragher’s 23 Foundation, LFC Foundation, and Stanley Park junior parkrun.
Foundation 23 ambassador Dan Clubbe underscores the importance of preserving the legacy and remembrance of Hillsborough, highlighting the significance of community solidarity and the ongoing pursuit of justice.
"Right now, its still going on. That impact is day to day on people and there's still a cause to be champions, so for the Liverpool community on a wider scale, its massively something that's close to our hearts. To do something like this event and show that they wont be forgotten and that the fight still goes on, it is always massively important."
As participants gather today, Liverpool demonstrates values of compassion, strength, and community spirit through Run For The 97.
