Chester GP warns of harm caused by counterfeit weight-loss jabs
Asda Pharmacy introduces safe disposal scheme to combat the issue
GP practices are witnessing a significant increase in patients suffering from severe side effects due to counterfeit weight-loss jabs.
Research by Asda Pharmacy reveals that 86% of GPs across the UK, including those in Liverpool, report treating more patients for symptoms like severe vomiting, diarrhoea, and dehydration from these fake treatments.
To address the crisis, Asda Pharmacy has launched a "safe disposal and support scheme." This initiative allows individuals to safely discard unregulated jabs at pharmacies and receive medical advice.
Dr Allen warns of the dangers of the unprescribed counterfeit weight-loss jabs, saying:
"There's no quality assurance of what's actually in the pen or the vile. There's no testing, and you don't know what contaminants are actually in the vile. They're unregulated and that's getting injected in your body."
The findings highlight a 'wild west' of weight-loss solutions, with the illegal jabs being purchased at places like gyms, spas, and hairdressers.
This alarming trend calls for heightened public awareness and vigilance to prevent further health risks from dangerous and unregulated weight-loss products.
