On the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a Liverpool man has told us that he's seen some 'awful things' while visiting the war-torn country.

Chris Reilly went to Ukraine earlier this year to step outside his comfort zone and experience what was happening in the country for himself.

He admitted that while it was an emotional journey and overwhelming, it made him a stronger person.

Chris said:

"Ukraine was different to what I expected in a positive way. The capital Kyiv, despite the air-raid sirens, everybody was strong and getting on with their lives.

"In the west we're led to believe that they're locked up inside and afraid to go out... it's not the case. They're strong people, level-shade, they get on and they face their fears every single day of the week.

"I cannot forget how strong the people are"

"I've seen some awful things - buildings getting blown up, explosions, shootings, but I cannot forget how strong the people are. Everyone concentrates on the war, everyone talks about ehwar, but as a country as a whole, it's unbelievable.

"I came back as strong as them. The experience helped me so much to grow, but for them to be going through this day every day... it's heart-breaking.

"Every person you meet, every person you speak to, they've got a member of family that's either died or been injured or both. Everybody is smiling, everybody is getting on, but despite it all, behind the smile, it's a country full of heartache."
