Liverpool charity marks nine years of support for those bereaved by suicide
Paul's Place prepares for a big anniversary celebration

Paul's Place, a programme under Beacon Counselling Trust in Liverpool, is celebrating its 9th anniversary today (13th October).
Dedicated to supporting adults bereaved by suicide across the Merseyside region, the charity aims to commemorate a decade of service next year with a series of events after supporting around 900 people in their 9 years of service.
Despite the organisation's significant impact over the years, the challenge continues as national suicide rates rise. Andrew Okell, Community and Engagement Support Lead, explained that Paul's Place prioritises quick and suitable access to support through tailored assessments.
Anyone bereaved by suicide can access free therapeutic support remotely or face-to-face at their office. In addition to individual therapy, they offer group activities including peer support groups, well-being walks, and excursions that foster community and nature connections.
In the absence of government funding, the charity relies on donations and fundraising efforts. Upcoming events include a music event at the Cavern on 3rd February, followed by a skydive in Lancaster on 16th May and the Whittle Coastal Walk on 27th June.
Okell hopes these initiatives will continue to provide vital support to the community.
Local Celebrities Ricky Tomlinson, along with Brian Nash from Frankie Goes to Hollywood and other public figures are among those championing the charity's mission with messages and contributions.
A ‘One Pound for Paul’s Place’ campaign is running throughout October for world mental health month.
