Two men arrested after police spotted the gun being fired from a front garden
Two men have been arrested after an air rifle was fired from an address in Huyton, with officers going on to seize weapons, knives and drugs from the property.
Merseyside Police said the arrests happened after reports that Sur-Ron bikes had been seen on Primrose Court just after 8.20pm on Monday 7th September.
Officers using aerial footage in the area spotted an air rifle being fired from the front garden of a house on the street, according to the force.
What officers found
Police said officers arrived at the address, detained two men and seized the air rifle that had been seen.
A search of the property later uncovered five air weapons, a gas-powered handgun, pellets, knives and a quantity of cannabis, police said.
Two men, aged 35 and 21, both from Huyton, were arrested on suspicion of firing an air weapon at a premises.
Merseyside Police said they were taken to a police station in Merseyside, where they remain in custody.
Part of a wider operation
The investigation forms part of Operation Gears, a Merseyside Police operation targeting the criminal use of bikes.
Detective Inspector Graeme Kehoe said: "Our officers in Huyton worked together to seize several weapons that were being used on our streets and often bring intimidation and violence to our community.
"Operation Gears is focused on tackling the criminal use of bikes that continues to cause harm to our communities. We know these vehicles are often linked to antisocial behaviour, drug supply and wider organised criminality, allowing offenders to move quickly and evade police.
"Our officers will continue our commitment to seize any bikes being used dangerously on our streets and search any properties suspected of being involved in the supply of illegal drugs and to bring those responsible before the courts."
Merseyside Police has asked anyone who sees the illegal use of e-bikes or weapons where they live to report it as soon as possible.
