HGV driver sentenced after leading police on cross-county chase

A man has been sentenced following a 25-mile police pursuit from Cuddington to Whitchurch involving a flatbed truck.
Ieuan Griffiths, 21, from Wrexham, appeared at Chester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 22nd September.
The sentencing follows Griffiths' guilty plea to charges of dangerous driving, driving without a licence and insurance, and failing to stop for police.
The incident happened on 10th August, when an officer attempted to speak with Griffiths, who then drove away at speed, leading to a pursuit across county lines.
The chase lasted approximately 50 minutes, during which Griffiths repeatedly drove through red lights and exceeded speed limits.
Eventually, police stopped the vehicle on a country lane in Whitchurch, at which point Griffiths fled on foot but was soon apprehended hiding near a caravan park.
Checks confirmed Griffiths lacked a driving licence and insurance, prompting his arrest.
When questioned by police, Griffiths expressed uncertainty about his decision to flee and acknowledged his disregard for road safety.
Police Constable Michael Clark commented on the incident, emphasising the danger Griffiths presented and the necessity of taking action against such behaviour.
Griffiths was sentenced to eight-months imprisonment, suspended for two years.
Additionally, the 21 year old faces a two-year driving ban and is required to complete an extended driving test before he can drive again.
He must also complete 200 hours of unpaid work and pay over £270 in fees.
