Full Circle expedition with Invictus Flag arrives in Liverpool to support veterans
Turn to Starboard aims to raise £300,000 to aid injured veterans through sailing
Liverpool welcomes the Full Circle expedition as two traditionally rigged tall ships, Spirit of Falmouth and Pellew, dock at Canning Half Tide Dock, carrying the Invictus Games Flag on their UK tour.
The expedition, a collaboration between veteran sailing charity Turn to Starboard and Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, is dedicated to raising £300,000 for a second tall ship to extend support for veterans facing PTSD, physical injury, isolation, and loss of confidence.
Founded by Prince Harry in 2014, the Invictus Games encourages recovery through adaptive sports, while Turn to Starboard's maritime challenge aids veterans in rebuilding confidence and restoring purpose.
During their three-day stay, the crew celebrates in Liverpool by raising the Invictus Flag at Liverpool Town Hall to honor local veterans and athletes competing at the upcoming Games.
Sally Terry, CEO of Turn to Starboard, emphasizes the expedition's transformative impact: "More than a voyage, this expedition is a powerful story of courage, service and renewal," showcasing adventure's healing and community-building powers.
Army veteran and expedition skipper Paul Miller speaks to the pride and resilience fostered through the journey: "Seeing Turn to Starboard and the Invictus Games come together in this way is powerful – every mile we sail, and every donation raised, helps build resilience and support the veteran community."
Captain Lee Hazard RN praises the expedition as part of the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 Impact Programme, highlighting recovery through "challenge, connection and community."
