Five teenagers have been arrested after reports of a stabbing in Fazakerley.

Merseyside Police were told that a group were seen running down Swainson Road, whilst being followed by a second group, at around 3:45pm yesterday (Sunday 11 January).

A short time later, a 23-year-old man walked into hospital with a stab wound to his chest and lacerations to his face and hand.

He's still in hospital and in a stable condition.

An investigation is underway and house-to-house, CCTV and forensic enquiries are being carried out in the local area.

Five boys - one aged 15 and four aged 14 - are being questioned on suspicion of s18 wounding with intent.

Detective Inspector Paula Jones said:

"This was clearly a shocking incident which has led to a male suffering serious injuries.

"Five males were arrested very quickly and are currently in custody and we continue to make enquiries to establish what has taken place.

"We would ask for anyone who was in the area of Swainson Road yesterday afternoon who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact us.

"Knife crime has no place on our streets and is vital that those responsible for carrying or using knives are found and brought to justice."
