Police have issued an update after offensive racist graffiti appeared at multiple sites in south Sefton, revealing that five masked males are believed to be responsible.

The markings were discovered on Tuesday 23rd September, with several reports made overnight from locations in Litherland, Seaforth, and Bootle. Investigators have now reviewed CCTV footage which captured the suspects in the affected areas.

According to police, the suspects were dressed head-to-toe in black, wearing face coverings and hoods to conceal their identities.

One of the group was riding a pedal bike, while the other four were on foot.

Detective Inspector Keith Swift said police are continuing their investigation and urged anyone with information or relevant video footage to come forward.

He said: “Our investigation is progressing and we believe the suspects in these incidents were five males. We are determined to find them and our inquiries are ongoing.

"They clearly made a concerted effort to hide their identities and we are relying on the local community, who I’m sure are just as appalled as we are, to come forward with information.”

“If you live in the area and have any knowledge of who carried this out, let us know. Similarly, please check your CCTV or dashcam footage from the evening of Monday 22nd September into the early hours of the morning on Tuesday 23rd September to see if you captured anything significant.

"We will not tolerate racist and hateful graffiti being committed in our community and we are carrying out enquiries to find the perpetrators.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Merseyside Police social media desk via @MerPolCC on X or Facebook, quoting log reference 25000785826.
