Extra police powers in Huyton after armed street brawl
Extra police powers were introduced across Huyton following a reported fight involving weapons
Two men have been arrested after a reported fight between two groups on Kipling Avenue in Huyton, which led Merseyside Police to introduce a Section 60 Order across part of the area.
The order gives officers extra powers to stop and search people they suspect of involvement in criminality or disorder.
What happened
Merseyside Police said the fight took place at around 4.40pm on Tuesday 8th September.
It was reported that some of those involved were armed with knives.
Officers attended the scene and, despite both groups attempting to flee, two men were arrested.
Merseyside Police said there have been no reported injuries but that they are treating the matter seriously.
The stop-and-search order
The Section 60 Order, made under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, began at 6.25pm on Tuesday 8th September and ran until 5am on Wednesday 9th September.
It covered an area bounded by a section of the M62, Windy Arbor Road, Dragon Lane, Warrington Road, High Street, Derby Street, Liverpool Road, Twig Lane, Church Road and Roby Road.
The order authorised officers to search any male aged between 14 and 45, of any ethnicity, if they were believed to be involved in crime.
It also included a Section 60aa authorisation, meaning anyone who refused to remove a face covering when asked by an officer, if the officer believed it was being used to conceal their identity, could be arrested.
Officers were also given powers to seize any face coverings.

A 24-year-old man from Huyton was arrested on suspicion of affray, possession of a knife or bladed article in a public place, possession of Class B drugs including cannabis and ketamine, and acquiring, possessing or using criminal property.
