An 18-year-old man was taken to hospital after being assaulted and having his electric bike stolen in Belle Vale.

Officers were called to the Morrisons store on Besford Road at 6.30pm on Thursday 20th February after reports the teenager had entered the shop with a stab wound to his back.

It is believed he had been cycling along the Loop Line, also known as the Ralla, with another male when he was attacked by a man who then stole his bike.

He was taken to hospital with what police described as a non-life-threatening injury.

Investigation underway

An investigation is underway and CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out.

Detective Inspector Mike Fletcher said:

“We would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Besford Road at around 6.30pm last night who heard or saw anything or has any information which could assist the investigation to contact us.

“We are particular keen to speak to anyone who has a dashcam fitted to the vehicle to establish if they captured anything significant.

“Thankfully the man suffered a non-life threatening injury but this could clearly have been a lot more serious and we remain committed to find out who is responsible.

“I would urge the public to support us by telling us what they know.”
