A disqualified driver who rammed a police car and almost struck his own mother while trying to escape has been jailed for four years.

William Lee Foulkes, known as Lee, of Cae Derwen, Llanfair Talhaiarn in Conwy, admitted dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.

He was sentenced at Mold Crown Court on 5th August, alongside a three-year sentence for possessing a Class A drug with intent to supply.

What happened

Police said an officer found Foulkes outside his home on 1st June, driving a rented car he had taken out under another name despite being banned from driving.

When he saw PC Daniel Darbey, Foulkes drove towards the police car and rammed into it multiple times.

He then reversed at speed into the police car in an attempt to escape, almost striking his mother, who was standing in the road blocking the officer.

Police said Foulkes made off, causing more than £10,000 worth of damage to the police vehicle.

How he was caught

Officers carried out searches across multiple locations to find Foulkes, who had taunted officers on social media in the days before his arrest.

He was arrested by the Priority Crime Team in Criccieth on 12th June.

Foulkes was also convicted of possessing cocaine and counterfeit £20 notes, found in Abergele in 2024.

His mother, 51-year-old Helen Foulkes, was separately sentenced for resisting an officer in execution of duty, and was ordered to pay a £300 fine plus £200 in costs.

What police said

PC Daniel Darbey, of the Roads Crime Unit, said Foulkes "put members of the public at risk with his dangerous driving, as well as almost striking his own mother."

He added: "His recklessness could easily have caused a serious injury or worse."

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Kneale said the force remains "committed to pursuing criminals like Foulkes by disrupting their activity."
